  • 3 cups All-Purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 25 grams butter
  • 4 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt


  • Sift together dry ingredients
  • Rub in butter thoroughly until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs
  • Add milk and mix into a soft dough
  • Turn out onto a lightly-floured surface and kneed until the mixture comes together
  • Roll out to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick slab and cut out scones with a biscuit cutter
  • Place on a greased and floured tray
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes in a 450ºF oven until golden-brown


  • This is a basic recipe that you can add sugar, fruit, or cheese to liven it up
  • Mix the scone batter lightly but quickly. Over handling will result in a tougher product
