Simply the Best Overnight Buns

This is a family favourite for large gatherings and reunions. Makes a sweet, white bun that is perfect for any sidedish

Ingredients

  • 1 package Quick Rise yeast
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 cups warm water
  • 12-13 cups All-Purpose flour

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together oil, warm water, egg, sugar, and salt
  • Mix yeast and flour together in a separate bowl
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the liquid ingredients
  • Pour the combined dough onto a lightly-floured surface
  • Knead dough for 10 minutes, or until it has reached a very smooth consistency
  • Divide the dough into as many portions as you have bowls
  • Place the dough in greased bowls, cover with tea towels, and let rest for 15 minutes
  • Punch down the dough, then let rise for an hour
  • After the hour, punch down the dough again and shape into buns
  • Place the buns close together in a baking sheet
  • Cover and let rise overnight
  • Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes

Notes

This recipe also makes amazing cinnamon buns, at the last rising stage, stack the buns into a bundt pan and add brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter
